What the Requester Sees
This page walks you through HYPR Affirm identity verification as the requester, the person being verified. You start by opening a verification link. The steps that follow depend on the verification flow your administrator configured in Control Center. A flow can be as minimal as a basic chat window or as involved as face-to-face video chat, facial recognition and multiple document uploads.
The following sections describe a verification flow with every step enabled. If a step described here doesn't appear for you, it isn't enabled in your flow; skip to the section that matches the screen you see. Your administrator can also restrict the available options, for example by enabling Document Type Restriction to limit which document types you can select.
For the exact default text of every screen, what your administrator can change and what information each step collects, see Requester Screen Text by Step.
Opening the Verification Link
You receive the verification link in one of these ways:
- A shared link for the verification flow, published by your organization. It resembles
<your_tenant_URL>/cc/ui/idv?verificationFlowId=<verificationFlowId>, for examplehttps://highlandsbank.hypr.com/cc/ui/idv?verificationFlowId=412823863560167930. - A personal link created for one requester. A Helpdesk operator can send it by email or text message, or your organization can deliver it through its own systems. It carries a request ID instead of the flow ID and expires on the date set when the request was created.
If the link has expired or is incorrect, Affirm shows Invalid Link with the message The link is expired or otherwise incorrect.
Instructions
The first screen lists the steps ahead. Read the list, then click Continue.
Consent
The consent screen shows the terms that apply to this verification. When the flow captures a photo ID or selfie, the terms include HYPR's biometric data consent notice. Your organization can add its own terms.
-
Scroll to the end of the consent text. The Accept button becomes available at the end.
-
Click Accept.
The consent screen has no decline button. If you don't agree, close the page before accepting.
For how the consent screen works and the text your organization can add, see Customizable Consent Screen. For which notice appears in which flow, see Biometric Data and the Privacy Notice.
Login Identifier
Enter your username or email address, then click Begin. If you opened a personal link, the field is already filled in and may be locked, or this screen may be skipped.
Phone Number or Email Verification
The screen shows the last digits of the phone number your organization has on file. If your flow offers a choice, first select Verify by phone or Verify by email. With email, the code goes to the address on file and you only click Next.
-
Choose your country from the drop-down list, then enter your phone number.
-
Click Next. Affirm sends a text message to the phone number you entered.
-
Open the text message on your phone, then type the code from it into the Check your text messages screen. The code submits after the sixth digit, or click Verify.
-
When the code matches, a confirmation message appears. Click Next.
If the code doesn't match, Code mismatch appears. Click Resend to get a new code.
Location
HYPR Affirm checks your location with two sources: the location your browser shares from your device, and the IP address of your internet connection.
-
If your browser asks for permission to share your location, click Allow.
-
If you don't allow location access, or the check fails, click Proceed with IP location or Retry check. Proceed with IP location continues using only the location of your internet connection. Retry check asks the browser again after you allow access in its settings.
-
When the location check passes, a success message shows your location. Click Next.
Verified Credential
If this step is enabled, you prove an existing digital credential with the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Open Microsoft Authenticator on your phone and tap Verified IDs.
- Scan the QR code on the screen. On a phone, tap this link instead.
- Follow the prompts in the app. When Verification successful appears, click Continue.
If the code isn't used within five minutes, Verification timeout appears. Click Try Again.
Identity Verification
Identity Verification uses HYPR's document verification provider to check your identity document and compare it with a selfie. The capture screens are the provider's own and appear inside the Affirm page.
-
Click Start verification. HYPR Affirm asks for your photo ID and a selfie taken now.
-
Select a country to see the identity documents you can upload. If your administrator enabled Document Type Restriction, the country choice is skipped and the available document types are limited, for example to passport, driver's license and national identity card, or to a single type.
-
Select the type of document you want to upload. Some document types need both the front and the back.
-
Choose where to capture your documents and selfie:
- On your phone: click Continue on phone, then follow Document Verification via Phone.
- On your workstation: click Upload photo, then follow Document Verification via Workstation.
Identity documents differ from place to place, both in which ones are considered authentic and in their composition and layout. For the documents Affirm accepts, see Supported Documents by Location.
If your flow checks two documents, you capture both documents first and take one selfie at the end.

Use your phone to capture a picture ID for facial recognition and name checking.

On the first document submission page, click Continue on phone.

-
If you're asked for the back of the document, capture it the same way. Review the image, then click Upload to use it, or Redo to take it again.
-
Next, you're asked for a selfie to compare with the photo on your picture ID. Make sure you're in good lighting; you might want to remove glasses or hats. When ready, click Continue.

-

When all documents are received, a success message appears. You can then close the HYPR Affirm dialog on your phone and continue on your workstation, as described in Checking Your Details.
Document Verification via Workstation

-
Check that your face is clear. Click Upload to use the selfie, or Redo to take it again.
-
When all documents are received, a success message appears.
Checking Your Details
After the capture finishes on your phone or your workstation, your workstation shows Checking your details while your documents and selfie are reviewed. Keep the page open. The flow continues on its own when the review finishes.
If your administrator made the results visible to you, an Identity verification results screen follows. It lists each check and whether it passed. Click Next.
Photo ID and Liveness Capture
If this step is enabled, you provide a photo of an ID that shows your face, then take a live selfie. Affirm compares the two faces. If your administrator configured liveness-only verification, the ID screen is skipped and your selfie is compared with an image already stored for you. For details about the anchor-image option, see Configuring Liveness-Only Verification (Anchor Image).
-
On the Upload photo document screen, click Upload and choose a photo of your ID. On a phone, click Capture to photograph the ID with your camera.

-
When the faces match, Thank you! appears. Click Next. If they don't match, click Retry to take another selfie.
Approver Chat and Video
If the Approver Chat and Video step is enabled, you join a chat room with the approver on your workstation. You can send chat messages and join a video chat.
If no approver joins within the time your flow allows, the chat ends with The maximum amount of time has passed and an approver has not joined. Contact your support team to start again.
-
When the chat opens, send messages to the approver as needed.
-
To use video, click the camera icon next to the message field, or click Click here to join when the approver starts video. If the browser asks for camera and microphone access, click Allow. Clicking Block may restart the verification flow.
-
When the approver has finished reviewing your identity verification information, the Continue button appears at the bottom. Click Continue.
Waiting for the Result
After the last step, Almost done! appears while your results are reviewed. Don't close or refresh the browser.
If your approver doesn't act in time, a message asks you to restart the flow.
Outcome
When the verification is complete, you see one of the following outcomes:
-
HYPR Device Manager, where you follow the instructions to pair devices to your account
-
A Microsoft Entra ID Temporary Access Pass
-
A Microsoft Entra Verified ID verifiable credential to add to your wallet
-
An Okta password reset page
-
A URL chosen by your organization
-
A message showing approval or denial. It can include a verification ID to give your help desk, with a button to copy it.
DeniedIf your verification is denied, you receive the following message. When you started from a shared flow link and no verification ID is shown, you're then returned to the start of the flow.

If a step can't verify you, Verification Unsuccessful appears and the flow moves on, or Identity Verification Denied ends it, depending on your administrator's settings. If you close the page before the end, the verification is recorded as abandoned.
